At EU level, the European Commission has taken many climate-related initiatives over the past two decades. This section of the website covers current areas of work which are of notable importance to the European cement industry. On the one hand, the cement industry is a key player in the reduction of, in particular, CO2 emissions. On the other, it can contribute, though its downstream products (concrete) towards helping society adapt to climate change.

Key partnerships
ACEI

The Alliance for a Competitive European Industry (ACEI) was formed in 2004 by 11 major European industry sector associations and BUSINESSEUROPE. The common objective of its Members is to promote the competitiveness of European industry on a global scale. The Alliance therefore encourages a policy and regulatory framework that supports that objective, reinforcing and complementing BUSINESSEUROPE’s work in this respect by providing a sectoral perspective.

The Sustainable Energy Europe 2009-2011 Campaign is a European Commission initiative in the framework of the Intelligent Energy – European Programme, which aims to raise public awareness and promote sustainable energy production and use among individuals and organisations, private companies and public authorities, professional and energy agencies, industry associations and NGOs across Europe.
